Cookware, what's the best?

Rachael Ray Cookware
All-Clad Copper Core

Le Creuset
I recently upgraded my cookware from a mismatched mess to a beautiful matching set from Rachael Ray. I absolutely love it! I never would have thought that  I would grow up and fall in love with cookware but, here I am. I have also heard great things about Le Creuset and their enameled cast iron cookware. They have such beautiful color options. Then there's the really fancy stuff like All-Clad. All-Clad Copper Core Cookware, as you might have guessed, has a copper core for supreme even heat and stainless steal on the outside that makes for a beautiful set. What cookware do you use? What cookware do you wish you used?

Cute Equestrian

I ran across an article about how to pull off the equestrian look and still look feminine. Some of the styles are more suitable for fall but there are a few that could be worn in the summer. I really wanted some equestrian boots last fall and never broke down and bought them. I wish I would have now. Check out some of the equestrian clothing after the jump! Tell me what you think.

My Over Protective Guide for My Little Brother & His College Experience

There are just certain things you need to know when you go off to college. Some things you hear so often you're sick of the advice, others you never hear until you've learned the hard way. Let me make it a bit easier on you. It's a very simple concept.
  • If Mom and Dad offer you any kind of assistance TAKE IT!
  • If you don't quite feel like going to class GO ANYWAY!
  • If you have a meal plan with the cafeteria USE IT!
  • If you meet a guy/girl and he/she likes you RUN AWAY!
  • If you get invited to a party DON'T GO!
  • If you go to the party anyway and someone offers you pills (I don't care if it's prenatal vitamins) DON'T TAKE THEM!
  • Oh and last but not least HAVE FUN!

We're All Grown Up

I'm going home to  rural Northeastern Oklahoma this weekend. It's the beginning of summer and I just can't help but feel a little bit nostalgic. I am going to watch my baby brother graduate from high school. It's official, we're all grown up. It's kind of sad, you know? We spent many many hours building forts in the woods, my two brothers and I. We rode motorcycles, hunted birds, occasionally got chased by cows- You know the usual. It seemed like every single summer I got poison ivy at least once. Have you ever had it? It causes itchy blisters that you want to scratch so bad but as soon as you scratch them it hurts. It can spread all over you like wild fire. It kind of reminds me of eczema. It nags at you and in the summer heat the itchiness seams to be magnified by 100!

Oh the memories of Cherokee County! I love my family very much and I am ready to see them today! I'm very proud of my little brother! Unfortunately we won't be building forts or hunting birds this time around!

Mirrors Mirrors On My Wall

I have a long wall in my bedroom that is completely blank, it's not cute! I have been trying to figure out what to do on that wall without spending a whole lot of money. I think it would be really fun to have a collage of mirrors along that wall. It's simple, can be cheap, and it can have a neat effect! I was thinking a collage of convex mirrors would be cool. I have also been on the hunt for mirrors in cool frames. The color doesn't matter because I can paint them and I prefer them to come from a thrift store or garage sale. the cost of the mirror and the paint would be cheaper than getting it at a home improvement or decor store.

A Little Jokey Joke

After many years at sea a pirate decided to retire. Since he had suffered injuries on the job he thought that he should collect on his disability insurance. He had a wooden leg, a hook where his right hand should be and a patch over his right eye. The agent assured him that he would be compensated if the injuries were work related. "How did you get the wooden leg?" In a booming voice the pirate replied:

"me and me mates were on the high seas when the boom she swang 'round and knocked me into the sea where a shark bit off me leg."

Agent: "that is certainly work related. how did you loose your hand."

Pirate: "well matey, me and me mates were on the high seas when the boom she swang 'round and knocked me into the sea where a shark bit off me hand."

Agent: "that’s also work related. how did you loose your eye?" in a booming voice the pirate replied:

"well matey, i was laying on the deck one balmy day catching some rays when this seagull flew by and dropped his duty right in me eye!"

Agent: "what does that have to do with the loss of your eye?"

Pirate: "it were the first day with me hook!"

Hail Damage in OKC

Just one example of OKC hail damage.

In case you haven't heard OKC got hit with yet another sever storm last Sunday (May 16, 2010). Hail the size of softballs and baseball pounded Oklahomans and their belongings. I was driving through a really nice neighborhood here just yesterday and it's a sea of roofing company signs! All week I've seen drivers with busted windshields and tow trucks are out in full force. My neighbor's car is completely beat up. Their back windshield is shattered, the front windshield might as well be, and there are countless dents. I don't think you can categorize them as hail dings, they are dents!

While doing some searching for local artists on Etsy I found something so cool! I found Victoria Camp Designs! She's a jewelry maker and an all around artsy kind of chick on the West Coast. She makes bracelets from maps and other beautiful pieces! You can request a certain city or check out the ones she has already made! I think it's just so inventive!

Victoria found her artsy side at a very young age. Her website says "Always on the pursuit of learning something new, she immersed herself in many creative areas such as illustration, polymer clay sculpting, sewing, jewelry making, photography, and web design."

Grocery Shopping and Something Extra

Last night I made my own version of a Greek pasta salad. It was very simple and it turned out so well! I needed a few things so went to Aldi. I really like this store because they're prices are great! There aren't any fancy displays, you don't see the same brands as you do at other stores, you buy your bags and sack your own groceries, and you deposit a quarter in order to get a shopping cart. What some don't understand is that you get your quarter back. They use it as incentive to put away your cart so they don't have to pay cart pushers, which helps with the overhead. I just love the whole concept!

Decisions Decisions...

Pic Found Here
If you know me, you know I have a hard time making up my mind sometimes. For example: I like Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper is pretty much the only beverage I buy at the convenience store (other than coffee on occasion). Even though I go in the store knowing what I always get, it takes me a while to decide. There are so many choices in the the cooler/fountain that the decision is still hard and guess what, I still always pick Dr. Pepper. This isn't anything new. I've always been this way. I'm the last one to order at a restaurant, I never pick a restaurant to go to, and when I rent a movie you better hope you don't get behind me at the Redbox! (By the way, how wonderful is Redbox?)

With all this said, I am looking to buy a new computer. I'm really excited about it! But as usual, I can't decide what brand, what size, and if there's an option to choose the color I'll have to draw out of a hat! Did you know that there are five different sizes of laptops alone? Believe it. The five types, listed smallest to largest are: Netbook, Ultraportable, Thin and Light, Desktop Replacement, and Luggable. What am I to do with all these options?

I haven't made a definitive decision but, today I like the idea of a netbook. The smallest option and possibly the most effective choice for me. I think it might fit in my purse! It seems to have all the things a larger model would have without being difficult to travel with and of course I'm on a budget! Check out this Acer Aspire. Is this the one for me? What kind of PC do you use?

Tornado Outbreak in Oklahoma

I'm sure many have heard about the Tornadoes that terrorized Oklahoma this past Monday May 10, 2010. The death toll is at 5 right now, with some still missing. Oklahomans lost their homes, belongings, and even some loved ones in the disaster. According to reports on NewsOK volunteers are needed. If you are willing and able to help, go to District 2 barn, 7501 S Anderson Road. Workers will be there from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Friday May 14, 2010. County Commissioner Brian Maughan said, "We have jobs for young and old,".
The American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma and the Salvation Army are both accepting monetary donations via phone and text message. Read more for donation details.

I'm Disfunctional at Decor

I will be redecorating soon and I'm so excited! I have been looking here and there for the style I like. I'm not sure I have actually narrowed it down exactly but while hanging around at Mod Vintage Life, Nita introduced me to a really cool online store called CSN. They have anything and everything decor related and the best part FREE SHIPPING! Check this print out and let me know what you think. I have a poster similar (the one pictured above) tucked away in a closet. But I think this one should be my inspiration piece for my living room! Any Suggestions? Comments? This is not my area of expertise... come to think of it, I'm not sure what would be my area of expertise. Hmmm...

Why Don't You Love Me? by Beyonce

I'm a Beyonce Stan. I couldn't help but to post this!

P.S. The Definition of  Stan: Based on the central character in the Eminem song of the same name, a "Stan" is an overzealous maniacal fan for any celebrity or athlete. (via Urban Dictionary) Just in case you were wondering.

My friend Mel has always been the artsy type. When I saw that she was selling her art on Etsy I just had to feature her! She has a unique style and she's very talented! I love her paintings! You can even request personalized art!

Mel on her artsy side:
"Art has always been of interest to me, but I really got into it more in high school. I have a pretty unusual style, but that goes for everything in my life! I like to paint on just about anything that will accept the paint! I am willing to give anything a try, so if there is something you have an idea about, I would do my best to create that idea and make it personal. I support local artists and encourage you to do the same!"

I'll Be Practicing

I had a coupon for 40% off of any one item at Borders. This was my chance to snag The Pioneer Woman Cooks by Ree Drummond. From the recipes I had used on her website I knew this was a must have cookbook! It contains staples of any kitchen (that uses butter and full fat milk) and brings forth memories of my childhood when my mom cooked supper every night and we all sat down at the table together. I never knew how much work she put into it until now. Since I've been on my own I have really taken a liking to cooking. Every evening (Ok not every single evening but, close to it) I come home from work and cook. Even though I don't have any children it's a real challenge to keep up the energy to cook supper some nights. Living out in the country, my family didn't have the easy option of just picking something up. That something was 20 minutes away and would cost money for a family of four. Looking back I can see the love that my mom put into each meal. Trying new things and sometimes making due with what we had, in my mind and belly it was always delicious. I can't wait to make memories for my family. Until then, I'll be practicing.

What's your favorite recipe to make for supper?

Breath Buster

This is obviously a dog treat. It's called a Breath Buster. Romo has fowl dog breath.
But he  doesn't like waiting.
He really loves his treats.

And this.

So he does this.

Until I give in.

Dapper: neat; trim; smart.- Larry Fitzgerald

Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals

I have an affection for handsome, young, well traveled professional football players. I'm not necessarily a hardcore football fan like my guy. But we're always watching football or something related to it. It used to be only during football season and the occasional football stories on Sports Center then my guy discovered something terrible, the NFL Network. It has football 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At first I hated it but, as I watched it more and more I realized that there was something in it for me. Up close looks at these fine specimen of world class athletes. I have already professed my love for a few of them: Reggie Bush and Dhani Jones. (They give me something to look for on the sidelines.) Let's take a nice long gander at Mr Larry Fitzgerald (Jr.) of the Arizona Cardinals.

Sharing is Caring
